Taxi driver carjacked in Diamond

A taxi driver of Diamond on the East Bank of Demerara was this morning robbed of his white spacio bearing registration number PVV 9742, $12,000 cash and important documents by a male and female.

According to information received, Dellon Skellekie, 30, who ply his trade in Diamond, was at the Diamond car park when the suspects went to him and requested a taxi to go to Third Avenue, Diamond.

It is understood that the male sat in the front passenger seat of the car while the female sat in the back seat, and upon reaching the vicinity of the Flamboyant supermarket, the male suspect pulled out a gun and dealt the victim a lash to his face before ordering him out of the car.

The male suspect got into the driver’s seat and drove in a western direction.

The police were called to the location and conducted a search in the area but came up empty-handed. However, they are in the process of reviewing CCTV footage from the area to continue their investigation.

 

Additionally, a suspect, Leon Alister, 24, of 2494 Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo who escaped from custody at the Leonora Police Station in the month of October, was recaptured last night in the vicinity of the Demerara Harbour Bridge.

Alister was in custody for Simple Larceny of two motor cars and escaped due to the criminal negligence of a rank.
