Money Changer robbed on Water Street

Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage in an effort to identify two men who robbed 36-year-old Bishwanauth Nouwdat of approximately $740,900 in cash, including foreign currency.

News Room was reliably informed that on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at about 10 am, Nouwdat of ‘C’ Field Sophia, was sitting on a chair in the vicinity of Popeye’s Fast Food outlet on Water Street, Georgetown with the monies in his hand when an armed man snatched it away.

The gun took from him$150,000 GC; $1200 US; $3000 TT; $1000 CDN; $90 EURO; $800 EC; $200 BDS and $31 Reas, a total value of $740,900 GC.

News Room understands that Nouwdat tried to retrieve his money but the perpetrator took out a handgun from his waist and lashed him to the left side of his face and made good his escape, South along Water Street then onto Cornhill Street, where he joined his accomplice who was waiting on a CG motorcycle.

Nouwdat was taken to the hospital where he was treated and sent away. Investigations are ongoing.
