A pedal cyclist of lot 1710 Dedication Place South R/Veldt Park, Georgetown who was this morning struck down by a speeding minibus on Vlissengen Road, has succumbed to his injuries.
The man, 42-year-old Desmond Grandsaoult was a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital’s High Dependency Unit at the time.
Grandsaoult was struck down by minibus- BTT 8476 in the vicinity of KFC on Vlissengen road at about 08:45hrs today. According to information received, the minibus was being driven by Jamal John whose address is unknown since he fled the scene soon after the incident.
News Room was told that the speeding minibus came into contact with the rear of the man’s bicycle and as a result of the impact, Grandsaoult fell on the road and was ran over by the said minibus, sustaining several injuries.
The minibus then ended up in a trench situated on the western side of Vlissengen Road, injuring five passengers who were treated at the hospital for minor injuries and sent away.
The pedal cyclist was picked up in an unconscious condition and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed this afternoon.
A search is on for the driver of the minibus as investigation progress.
