GDF rank killed in accident at Houston

A 22-year-old rank of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) is now dead after he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding and crashed into a motorcar on the Houston Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) about 13:47hrs on Christmas Eve (Sunday, December 24, 2017).

Dead is Owen Travis Carrington of Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara (WCD).

News Room understands that Carrington was riding motorcycle CJ 3815 south along the eastern carriageway at a fast rate, swerving in and out of the traffic when the left side handle of his bike collided with a vehicle, causing him to lose control of the motorbike.

The motorcycle started to skate and it ended up in the western carriageway where it crashed into motorcar PPP 5567 which was driven by a 27-year-old female.

As a result of the collision, Carrington – who was not wearing a helmet – received severe head injuries. News Room was informed that an ambulance from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) visited the scene and a doctor pronounced the cyclist dead. The GDF ambulance subsequently arrived and collected the body.

The driver of the motorcar was taken into custody and an investigation has been launched.
