Police have arrested a 33-year-old Taxi Driver with almost 66 kilograms of cocaine [approximately 145 pounds] hidden inside a gas cylinder, which was stashed in the trunk of his car.
A brief statement from the Guyana Police Force noted that an intelligence-led operation was conducted by ranks of the Force’s Narcotics Branch on December 24, 2017, at the suspect’s Budhoo Housing Scheme, Parika East Bank Essequibo home between 14:00-16:30hrs.
News Room understands that a search was first conducted inside the suspect’s house but it came up empty-handed when they decided to search his car and found the unusually heavy gas cylinder in the trunk. In the suspect’s presence, the enforcement officials, commanded by a Gazetted Officer, cut open the cylinder and found the illicit substance. Investigations are ongoing.
