Motorcyclist dies after head-on collision on Mandela Avenue

Shaquille Browne of Norton Street, Lodge was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident on Tuesday night (December 26, 2017) after the motorcycle he was riding crashed head-on into a car on Mandela Avenue, aback the Botanical Gardens in Georgetown.

Police said that the accident occurred at approximately 19:00hrs; Browne was not wearing a safety helmet and the motorcycle is unregistered.

Police reported that Browne was proceeding north along the western carriageway at a fast rate; he reportedly overtook a number of vehicles and ended up on the opposite lane when collided with the front of motorcar PTT 4575.

He fell off the motorcycle and sustained severe injuries to his face and body; medical personnel responded and pronounced him dead. The body is at Sandy’s Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem whilst the 49-year-old driver of the car was transported to the hospital.

Police said that the driver of East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme tested negative for alcohol in his system.
