Youth charged with murder of Craig man

A 21-year-old man was on Wednesday remanded to prison for the murder of 40-year-old clothes vendor, Purcell Moore from Cayenne, French Guiana, who was shot and killed during a robbery on December 20, 2017, at Old Road, Craig, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Kelvin Persaud of Fourteen Avenue, Diamond, EBD appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that on the day in question, he murdered Moore during the course of a robbery.

Persaud did not have legal representation and was remanded to prison until December 29, 2017, when the matter will be recalled before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan.

According to reports, Moore was shot dead during an attempted robbery in the vicinity of the ‘shortcut’ at Old Road, Craig. According to a police statement, an argument reportedly erupted between the victim and the suspects and it escalated into a scuffle, during which the armed suspect allegedly discharged several rounds.

Moore was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
