Miner’s driver’s license suspended for 12 months

Magistrate Esther Sam has fined 35-year-old Steve King $7,500 and suspended his driver’s license for 12 months after he was charged for the second time with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police reported that King, a miner of Sixth Avenue, Bartica was arrested and charged on February 24, 2017 with driving under the influence (DUI); he was fined and his driver’s license endorsed.

However, on December 23, 2017, he was again arrested and charged with the same offence; he appeared before Magistrate Sam at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Friday, December 29, 2017, where he pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police said that the offences were committed in Bartica and on both occasions he was driving motorcar PTT 25.
