The newly constructed overpass at Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD) has seen its first case of a suspected suicide on Saturday, December 30, 2017, when a 40-year-old man jumped to his death at about 15:00hrs.
Dead is Navin Surujpaul of Time Square, Grove EBD. News Room understands that the man walked to the top of the eastern stairway of the overpass and jumped after he was allegedly “chased out” of the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital.
Surujpaul managed to jump despite the barriers. Construction workers from the western side of the stairway rushed to his aid and took him to the Diamond Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.
Relatives described him as an alcoholic and drug addict. They last saw him on Friday morning. Investigations are ongoing.
