Guyana Defence Force (GDF) outplayed Grove Hi-Tech 2-0 on Monday night to be crowned champions of the Guyana Football Federation’s Super 16 Year-end Football Classic at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.

GDF scored both their goals in the second half after both teams failed to breach the defence of the goalkeepers in the opening half. Eusi Phillips put the army men ahead with a penalty strike in the 58th minute, before Delroy Fraser doubled the advantage with a goal in the 80th minute.

Earlier, Fruta Conquerors topped Milerock 3-1 in the third place playoff, which was a Georgetown versus Linden showdown.

Ryan Hackett gave Conquerors a perfect start by scoring in the third minute, before Jermine Junior added another 20 minutes later. With a 2-0 advantage at half-time, Conquerors had put themselves on course for the win, and that momentum continued in the second half.

Junior completed his double in the 83rd minute to hand Conquerors a 3-0 lead, but Kester Randolph trimmed the margin of defeat for Milerock by scoring the Linden side’s lone goal in the 85th minute.
