The Guyana Police Force has installed Assistant Superintendent, Amit Dass as the head of the Special Weapons and Tactic (SWAT) Unit while Deputy Superintendent, Motie Dookie has been reassigned.

Dookie, now the subject of an alcohol smuggling investigation, has since been posted to the Strategic Planning Unit of the organisation as the probe into his involvement of thirty cases of whiskey being smuggled across the Corentyne corridor continues.

The News Room has been informed that another Assistant Superintendent, who is also part of the unit, is slated to be reassigned to a division.

This morning, Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan told News Room that it is his belief the SWAT commander should be out of the force as he has tarnished the image of the organisation.

Ramjattan said that such actions make it hard for other officers of the force and sets a bad example to the junior ranks.

On Tuesday, Commissioner of Police acting David Ramnarine confirmed that Dookie will no longer be heading the SWAT Unit.

At a meeting, this morning, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Clifton Hicken who heads the force’s operations and supervises the SWAT team, recommended Amit Dass to head the unit and that recommendation was accepted by Ramnarine.

As it relates to the close arrest of Dookie, Ramnarine on Tuesday did not comment on that aspect but only confirmed that an investigation is ongoing into the matter.

The bust was made on Saturday at a police road block in front of the Whim Police Station. Dookie who was invited into the station on the night the bust was made, reportedly told his juniors that the vehicle was ferrying ten cases of whiskey for the Guyana Police Force Old Year’s Night Ball but it turned out to be a lie.

Dookie, who was required to remain at the police station to facilitate the investigation left on the said night and returned the following morning. By then, his story pertaining to his knowledge of the alcohol changed and he provided the police with an explanation as to how he ended up in the same vehicle with the smuggled alcohol.

At the time that Dookie was in Berbice, he did not receive permission from his superior to be out of the division and that matter is also being investigated departmentally.
