Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo is expected to submit a nominee for the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) before the process for the appointment of the Commission can move forward.

According to the Ministry of the Presidency, during a meeting with President David Granger on Wednesday, the Opposition Leader spoke of being allowed to put forward a nomination to the Commission and in the interest of good governance, the President readily agreed.

The President had initially submitted the full list of seven nominees to Mr Jagdeo for consultation as is required by the constitution.

The statement quoted Minister of State, Joseph Harmon as saying that the Government is trying to ensure that it has a commission that fully represents the Guyanese Society.

He said the Opposition Leader has undertaken to have the name submitted very shortly.

The provision of a name by the Opposition Leader will signal the end of the necessary consultations on the TSC. The President will then consider the Opposition’s nominee, paving the way for the appointment of this Commission.
