9-Y-0 critical following Corentyne accident

A nine-year-old girl is in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital, after she was struck down on the Number 68 Village public road, Corentyne, Berbice on Wednesday.

According to information received, motor car HC 775, driven by 25-year-old Seenarine Shamlall of Number 77 village was proceeding at a fast rate when it is alleged that Christina Lakeram of Lot 111, Number 68 Village, ran into its path.

She was struck by the car and was picked up in an unconscious state by public spirited citizens who rushed her to the Skeldon Public hospital. Lakeram, a student of the Number 68 Primary School, was treated and referred to the New Amsterdam Public hospital, however she was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital as her conduction worsened.

The accident occurred at about 13:00hrs.

The driver of the car has since been arrested pending charges.
