The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) on Thursday, 04 January 2018 seized a forty-foot container containing some one thousand boxes of smuggled chicken. The seizure was done by personnel of the surveillance and anti-smuggling arm of the Guyana Revenue Authority. News Room understands that two persons have since been arrested.

Efforts by the News Room to ascertain which wharf the container belongs to were futile. However, News Romm understands that the container was rented from a city wharf. Additionally, the truck which was used to ferry the container was rented from Agri-Parks located in Georgetown, by an East Bank Demerara resident.

When contacted today, the company confirmed that one George Calario of Kuru Kuru Soesdyke Linden Highway rented the vehicle for two days. Calario reportedly informed the company that he needed the truck to make a return trip from Berbice.

When the News Room visited the State Warehouse at Eccles on the East Bank of Demerara, which is managed by the GRA, we observed that the ranks from the agency had just escorted the truck into the compound. On Wednesday, GRA took possession of a quantity of smuggled whiskey which was seized from a minibus in which a senior police officer and another man were the only occupants.
