A police raid on a popular nightclub in the city today resulted in the discovery of drugs and the detention of dozens of female foreign nationals.

A total of forty-nine persons, including employees, were removed from the Diamond Hotel and Bar located at George Street, Werk-en Rust.

Crime Chief, Paul Williams confirmed that there were several persons at the club and their legality in the country is being verified.

“During that exercise, we would have found forty-one foreign nationals, some narcotics drugs were seized, some employees and we are conducting investigations further in that matter. You will be updated subsequently on that matter,” the Crime Chief told the media at a press conference on Friday, 05 January 2018.

Williams said that there is no evidence at this point to suggest that the persons who were removed from the location were trafficked.  This is not the first time that the police would have raided a nightclub and removed women who they suspect to be in the country illegally. (Leroy Smith)
