Action will be taken against non-compliant broadcasting entities that do not take the relevant steps to become compliant with the regulations of the broadcasting authority by the first quarter of the year.

Head of the Guyana National Broadcasting Authority (GNBA), Leslie Sobers sounded the warning Friday during an interview with reporters on the sideline of an event on Friday, January 5, 2018.

“So that’s a message to all illegal broadcasters, bring yourself into full compliance or be prepared to be taken off the air by March,” the GNBA Head said.

He made it clear that the GNBA will not be issuing licenses to those broadcasters who are not in compliance.

As such, they will be required to stop broadcasting and if they continue to air content, legal action will be taken against them.

Sobers explained that some noncompliant entities are working with the GNBA to rectify their issues but he lamented that there are some companies that have blatantly refused to cooperate.

Sobers said the Broadcasting Authority will deal with those companies in the first quarter of the year and if they refuse to cooperate, they risk being taken off the air. (Devina Samaroo)
