Thirty-two-year-old Stanley Edwards of Orealla, East Berbice-Corentyne, Region 6, appeared at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, charged with the murder of 40-year-old Sahadeo Sankar.
The court heard that the murder took place on January 3, 2018, at Crabwood Creek, Corentyne. Edwards appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh and was not required to plead to the indictable offence.
He was remanded to prison until January 29, 2018. Sankar was a fisherman and on the day in question, his lifeless body was found in front of a grocery shop in the area. It is believed that he was beaten to death after consuming alcohol with Edwards.
News Room understands that footage from a surveillance camera in the area revealed that Sankar ran across the road while being pursued by the suspect, who hit him several times to the upper body. Moments later, ‘Sankar’ fell to the ground and the suspect escaped.
The surveillance camera also revealed that after the victim became motionless, the suspect returned and kicked him several times.
