Taxi driver, bank employee robbed at Providence

A 29-year-old Accountant who works with the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) along with the taxi driver with whom she was travelling with, were robbed at Providence on the East Bank of Demerara on Tuesday evening, January 09, 2018.

News Room understands that Louren Thomas left her workplace in the taxi driven by Mark Horgobin and at one of the cross streets at the Providence Housing Scheme, a man armed with a handgun, rode up on a motorcycle and blocked the path of the car, which forced the driver to stop. The incident occurred at around 20:30hrs.

It was reported that the perpetrator walked to the driver’s side door, drew his handgun and hit the driver in his head before relieving the victims of their valuables.

Thomas was relieved of a Michael Kors handbag, a Samsung Galaxy S5 cell phone valued $40,000, a Blu cellphone valued $25,000 and her GBTI bank card.

The 43-year-old taxi driver of Kitty, Georgetown, was relieved of one Alcatel cellphone valued $32,000 and $20,000 cash.
