A Police Constable attached to an interior location was Wednesday night attacked and robbed by armed bandits at Britain Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

According to a police statement, the man was on the road conversing with a relative when the suspects approached on a motorcycle; the pillion rider brandished a handgun, dismounted the bike and gun-butted the policeman to his head.

The cop was relieved of a gold chain valued $220,000 and fled the scene with his accomplice.

The matter was reported to the Sparendaam Police Station and one of the suspects was arrested shortly after in the Plaisance community. The police statement said though he was positively identified by the victim, the suspect has denied the allegation.

Police said the stolen property has not been recovered nor have they found the firearm used to commit the crime. The accomplice and the motorcycle are being sought as investigations continue.
