20-Y-O man in stable condition after three-storey fall

A father of one who fell from the third storey of the old New Amsterdam Psychiatric Hospital while conducting works to demolish the building on Monday is said to be in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Christopher Singh, 20, of Maida Farm, Corentyne, Berbice, was transferred to the city hospital on Monday.

News Room spoke to the man’s relatives on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, who noted that his condition is improving.  Singh fell from the third floor of the building while “in the process of removing old boards,” Regional Health Officer, Jevon Stephens said. He disclosed that the building has been out of use and beyond repairs for over 15 years.

News Room understands that Singh is employed by Bansingh Gayadeen, a contractor who is demolishing the building free of cost.

Singh was not wearing any safety gears at the time of the accident. An investigation into the incident has since been launched.
