Ricks and Sari cycling event set for January 27
Another season, another packed cycling programme to be unveiled by national cycling coach, Hassan Mohamed. The long-serving sport official is set to pedal off his programme of activities later this month.
Mohamed informed News Room that January 27 has been identified as the season-opening race for him, with the inner circuit of the National Park being the venue.
The event will take the form of an 11-race programme, which is set to pedal off at 09:00h. Opening the season would be Ricks and Sari Agro Industries, a company whose support for cycling cannot be doubted.
This will be the 25th year the company would be sponsoring this specific event, making it one of the longest active partnerships in local cycling. Mohamed said the support of Ricks and Sari Agro Industries has been phenomenal over the years and he is grateful for the strong alliance with the company.
The feature race of the day would the 35-lap School Boys and Invitational, which is expected to attract the senior riders and those up and coming cyclists. Alanzo Greaves won last year’s race in one hour, 18 minutes, but he is currently serving a ban, which means a new champion would be crowned.
In the Junior category, Romello Crawford would look to defend his title from last year, while Warren McKay would want to maintain a hold of the Veterans Under-50 title. Jamal Heyliger won the 12-14 Boys and Girls race last year, while Shane Bourne took top honours in the Mountain Bikes division.
Officials of Ricks and Sari Agro Industries, including marketing representative Sven D’Oliviera, will be on hand to witness the races and assist in the presentation of prizes after.
