A 16-year boy was remanded to prison on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, following allegations that he raped his 7-year-old cousin.

The teenager appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where the matter was held ‘in camera.’

Particulars of the charge alleged that during the month of January 2017 at Charlotte Street, Georgetown he engaged in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16. The teen was not required to plead to the charge and was remanded prison until January 26, 2018.

According to reports, the teenager and his cousin lived in the same house during which it is alleged that he had sexual intercourse with the 7-year-old boy. The mother of the child later found out and reported it to the police.

However, relatives of the accused have refuted the claims of the victim’s mother and contended that the charge is ‘trumped-up” since there is currently bad blood between the two families.
