Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Saturday confirmed that Guyanese youth players Joshua Persaud and Raymond Perez will return to the Caribbean, ending their journey in the Under-19 World in New Zealand early.

Middle-order batsman Persaud, who had issues with documentation prior to the tournament, joined the squad late and hadn’t played a match in the World Cup when he received news of his mother’s passing in the USA.

Opener Perez, on the other hand, picked up an injury in New Zealand. He too didn’t play a match.

CWI said on Saturday, “Persaud has been a part of the WINDIES U19 team currently participating at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand. All arrangements were made by CWI to allow him to immediately depart for Guyana to be with family and close ones during this difficult time.

Both Persaud and injured player Raymond Perez, left New Zealand last night and are on their way back home to Guyana. Brad Barnes will depart the Caribbean today, en route to New Zealand to replace Perez. No replacement has been requested for Persaud.”
