A 34-year-old man is currently in custody at the Brickdam Police Station after he was nabbed at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 22, 2018, as he attempted to smuggle contraband to a murder accused.

Leon Smart was caught by alert police officers at the prisoners’ outpost when he brought Vodka in a two-litre sprite bottle and two packs of cigarette at about 14:20hrs.

News Room understands that the items were brought in a care package for Colvin Johnson known as ‘Gun-Butt,’ who is on remand for the 2016 murder of Paul Rodney.

After he was arrested, Smart told the police that he did not know that it was illegal for such items to be given to a prisoner, however, the police do not believe his story on the grounds that Smart is a regular visitor to the prison and is aware of the rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, earlier today, an armed robbery charge was dismissed against Smart by Magistrate Faith McGusty.  Smart was on remand for the armed robbery committed on a Brazilian national and her driver at Bell Air Par, Georgetown last November.

The alleged mastermind behind the robbery, Kelvin Emper had confessed to the offence, hence the charge was dismissed against Smart.
