Police in Lethem, Region 9, managed to apprehend three Brazilian nationals, who executed a daring afternoon robbery on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, in the commercial zone of the community.

The suspects were caught when they crashed the car, which they stole from a businessman in a bid to escape.

News Room was reliably informed that the trio entered Michael’s Jewellery and Cell Phone Shop owned by Dwayne Grant, a businessman of Bonfim, Brazil and held his wife at gunpoint at around 15:00hrs; she was alone in the shop at the time.

News Room understands that they tied the woman’s hands and held a gun to her head, while they packed cell phones, watches and gold jewellery in a bag.

According to reports, they then demanded the keys to her husband’s car, which was parked in front of the shop. The suspects tried to drive the car and instead of reversing the car, they drove forward and crashed into the shop.

The police responded promptly and arrested the trio. Police are still searching an area for the bag containing the articles allegedly stolen. Investigations are ongoing.
