Administrators should play the World Cup- Sarwan

If Ramnaresh Sarwan had his way he would send a squad of administrators, drawn from those who have served from 1990 onwards, to represent the West Indies in the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.

The former West Indies middle-order batsman and captain, in a Facebook post immediately after the West Indies World Cup Qualifiers squad was made public on Thursday, made known his disgust after it appeared there is still an acrimonious relationship between the board and senior players.

“The CWI or WICB, whatever name y’all come under, all the administrators, from 1990 onwards should go and play now and help the team qualify for the next World Cup. Set a greedy, selfish, no vision, and power drunk people,” Sarwan posted.

He continued, “Now, imagine the great WICB asking players to play. I would like to laugh but out of respect for the Caribbean people I won’t.”

During his playing days, the Guyanese right-hander also had a few run-ins with administrators. So it is quite natural for him to take the players’ side in the prolonged and highly publicised standoff.

In a subsequent post, Sarwan detailed his squad, even naming a Captain, Manager, Head Coach and Assistant Coach. Three Guyanese made the squad.
