GMR&SC guidelines for Endurance competitors this weekend

0

The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) has made several changes for this weekend’s Two-hour Endurance race at the South Dakota Circuit. The changes were agreed upon at a competitors’ meeting on Friday night.

Sunday’s event will open the 2018 season and anticipation is high among drivers and organisers. Action will start at 13:00h and Clerk of the Course will be Cyril Angoy.

According to the GMR&SC, competitors’ grid positions will be based on the order in which they sign up. The first person to sign up will start at the front of the grid, second to sign up will start second and that trend will be followed.

Each car must be fitted with a working transponder. There will not be a system in place for recording laps of entries without transponders. Unofficial lap recording will not be allowed, and each team must consist of two drivers.

The minimum time a driver can drive for is 30 minutes, while the maximum time is one hour 30 minutes. Competitors must wear protective clothing or gear, and each car must be fitted with a fire extinguisher that is securely mounted.

When a competitor is being overtaken by a faster car, that competitor must keep his line. The faster car will overtake at an appropriate opportunity.

A championship points system will be implemented for the three endurance events to be held this year. Points will be awarded to individual drivers for positions 1 to 10 being 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1.

A lien trophy will be awarded to the overall winners after their names are imprinted on the trophy. The winners must defend this trophy at the subsequent rounds.

A championship points system for mechanics will also be introduced at this event. The mechanic championship will cover circuit, drag and endurance racing. The mechanics points will mirror the drivers’ points.
