Lance Corporal, driver arrested with ‘ganja’

A 24-year-old Lance Corporal attached to the joint services and a 27-year-old driver have been arrested for the possession of a quantity of compressed cannabis found in the car in which they were travelling.

According to police information, the hire car driven by the 27-year-old Berbice resident was noticed by a traffic rank overtaking several vehicles on a ‘solid yellow line’ on the Strathspey Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Saturday, January 27, 2018.

Police stated that the rank who was on a motorcycle patrol stopped and escorted car to the Vigilance Police Station. During a search, three parcels of compressed cannabis were found hidden inside a gas stove that was in the trunk of the black Fielder-Wagon.

A police report noted that the driver and the Lance Corporal, both of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice, admitted to the ownership of the illegal substance which weighed 1,022 grams.

The suspects are likely to appear in Court soon.
