Driver arrested with ‘ganja’, Brazilians arrested with gun, ammo
Police on Monday morning (January 29, 2018) arrested a 20-year-old driver of East Canje, Berbice with 9.07 kilograms (22 pounds) of cannabis.
The police force said at about 9:45hrs, the 212 motorcar which he was driving was at Bath Village, West Coast Berbice and a search revealed five taped parcels containing the illegal substance inside of a black shoulder bag on the back seat of the vehicle.
He is likely to appear before the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, January 30, to answer a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Meanwhile, routine patrols by ranks of the Joint Services in Central Rupununi, between January 26-28, 2018, have resulted in the arrest of three males, two of whom are Brazilians for unlawful possession of arms and ammunition.
The police in a statement said the 43-year-old Guyanese of South Rupununi was found in possession of eight ammunition components and the foreign nationals ages 43 and 48, were found with a 28-gauge single barrel Borta shotgun and five live cartridges.
They are also being processed for court.
