A 23-year-old driver has been arrested while in the process of disposing of several parcels of compressed cannabis just after 02:00hrs on Monday, following several attempts to escape the police.

According to the police, a speeding motor car breached a police cordon in front of the Fort Wellington Police Station, West Coast Berbice (WCB) causing ranks to take evasive action to avoid being struck down. The police force said on approaching the vehicle, two occupants exited the vehicle and entered another car which sped away.

It was noted that while being pursued by ranks, the vehicle veered into a street at No. 27 Village and ended up in a nearby trench, where two males excited and escaped through the unlit street.

The driver, however, was arrested in the process of disposing of a bag which was found to contain nineteen parcels of compressed cannabis. The illegal substance was weighed and amounted to in excess of 9, 165 grams.

Efforts are being made to apprehend the other two suspects while the vehicles and the illegal substance are lodged.
