A massive job fair will be hosted on Wednesday (January 31, 2018) at the Patentia Tarmac, West Bank Demerara (WBD) mainly for the benefit of former workers of the Wales Sugar Estate who are seeking employment.

Hundreds of persons were left jobless after the Government shut down the Wales Sugar Estate in 2016.

Ramesh Dookhoo, Chairman of the Trade and Investments Committee of the Private Sector Commission (PSC) – which is organising the event – said the fair will also be opened to other persons who are generally having a tough time landing a job.

He is also encouraging more companies to participate in the event.

Based on the success of the activity, Dookhoo said the PSC will be rolling out similar initiatives to communities that will be impacted by the closures of estates across the country.

Over 20 companies are already onboard to participate in the fair; these include Banks DIH, Gafoors, National Hardware, among others.

Persons seeking employment will have the opportunity to meet with and be interviewed by potential employers.

Dookhoo encouraged that interested persons attend the event walk with evidence of their education qualifications, recommendations, NIS card and TIN certificate and police clearance – if available.
