Guyana Jaguars started their title ambitions with a 35-run victory over Kent in the Super50 on Wednesday in Antigua.

After posting 233, Jaguars then skittled out the English county side for 198 in the 47th over. Spinners Veerasammy Permaul with 4-46 and Devendra Bishoo with 3-34 did the damage with the ball, as Kent slipped from 119-1 in the 28th over.

Kent seemed on course for the win when the top three batsmen were dominating the Jaguars bowlers. Opener Zak Crawley made 60, Sean Dickson 29 and opener Daniel Bell Drummond 28, but once they were dismissed, the innings when into decline as Permaul and Bishoo ran through the line-up.

Earlier, Jaguars recovered from 33-3 to post 233, thanks largely to Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s 67 and solid lower order batting. Anthony Bramble made 39, Romario Shepherd 29 and Sherfane Rutherford 24.

Mitchell Claydon, who took 5-31, rocked Jaguars top order, removing skipper Leon Johnson and debutant Chandrapaul Hemraj, both without scoring in the seventh over, after Ivan Thomas removed Test player Shimron Hetmyer for 19.

On the opening day on Tuesday, Barbados Pride inflicted a 171-run whipping on Trinidad and Tobago Red Force and CCC Marooners trounced Windward Islands Volcanoes by 115 runs.
