Father of 3 dies in Sarah Johanna accident
Persaud Hari, 61, died at the Diamond Hospital, East Bank Demerara (EBD) at around 22:30hrs on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, hours after he was struck down on the Sarah Johanna Public Road, EBD.
According to a police report, Hari, a labourer who resided at Sara Johanna, allegedly walked into the path of the Minibus, BVV 852 (zone 42) driven by a 50-year-old Yarowkabra Soesdyke/Linden Highway resident.
Police said that the driver passed a breathalyzer test but remains in custody assisting with the investigation.
Investigations revealed that the minibus was proceeding north along the western carriageway, reportedly at a moderate speed when the father of three, who was proceeding in the opposite direction, suddenly began crossing from east to west into the vehicle’s path and was struck down.
Police said the driver immediately picked up the conscious victim who sustained injuries to the head and body and rushed him to the Diamond Hospital. Investigations are ongoing.
