ANSA McAL Trading, under its Magnum brand, along with Legacy Promotions will host the first edition of the Futsal Mash Cup scheduled to start on Saturday (February 3) at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

At the press conference on Wednesday, representative of Legacy Promotions, Esan Griffith, highlighted what to expect from the tournament that should bring a new flavour to the growing futsal discipline.

“We expect this to be a real classic event; the tournament is about getting the communities together in a competitive Mash (Mashramani) like atmosphere. It’s 24 of the some of the best teams from around Guyana and its going to be a classic Mash event,” Griffith stated.

Brand Coordinator of Magnum, Edison Jefford, shared the effort at which Magnum will extend itself to make the event different from the some of the other futsal tournaments.

“The entertainment for this tournament will be like nothing never seen before and we are looking for that exciting competition. We will have a lot of different attractions and fans will be happy with the giveaways and the brand of entertainment,” Jefford noted.

Acting Director of Sport, Brian Smith, also shared that the government will definitely look at creating avenues in an effort to decentralise the sport that is becoming a local phenomenon.

“This is a platform for grassroot sports and we will look to have facilities such as the Gymnasium in regions such as Berbice and Linden because even though recognised teams from these regions (are) playing we also want these tournaments to spread around,” Smith stated.

Twenty-four teams will start the tournament on Saturday with the hope of winning the $400,000 first place prize.
