A 66-year-old Georgetown woman whose car was hijacked last year has recovered it in what police boasted was “significant progress” in the apprehension and prosecution of carjackers.

In a statement, police said the woman’s car was hijacked by three men on November 4, 2017 as she was about to drive into her yard.

It turns out that police had arrested two men who claimed ownership of the vehicle, even producing a valid registration. However, police were suspicious and impounded the vehicle at a police station in Georgetown.

On Friday, even though the car was repainted in a different colour, the woman was able to identify the car as hers since it matched the engine and chassis numbers she provided.

A short while after the woman identified the car as hers, the driver who was found with the vehicle and another suspect were fingered in a series of armed robberies during which some of the victims were relieved of their vehicles.

“The duo has since been charged and remanded, however they will now face additional charges,” the police stated.
