One killed, one hospitalised in separate accidents
A motorcyclist Friday morning died after he lost control of his motor cycle and collided with a lamp pole on the Atlantic Ville Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
According to a Police statement, the 26-year-old man, Zahid Mohamed, a Mason of East La Penitence, Georgetown, was proceeding at a fast rate at about 01:50 hrs on Friday when he lost control of the motor cycle and collided with the utility pole at the centre of the road.
As a result of the impact, he received injuries and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was seen by a doctor and was pronounced dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, a serious accident which occurred at about 18:30hrs on Thursday on the Lusignan Public Road, ECD, has left a 55-year-old man of Courbane Park Annandale, ECD hospitalised.
Police said a driver of Track “A” Coldigen, ECD was proceeding east along the Lusignan Public Road when he noticed, from a short distance, a male standing in his path wearing a black top. The driver allegedly swerved south when the left front of the vehicle collided with the pedestrian, whose name was given as Ram Singh, causing him to fall; he received injuries about his body.
The man was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted to the male surgical ward.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver and found his alcohol level to be zero.
