A 68-year-old man met his demise on Saturday morning (February 03) after he was struck down by a speeding car on the Williamsburg Public Road in Corentyne, Berbice.
Winston Williams of Williamsburg, Corentyne was riding his bicycle when he was hit by the motorcar which was driven by a 47-year-old man of South Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown.

News Room was informed that the motorcar was proceeding west along the Public Road at a fast rate and the cyclist rode out from Dr Tulsie Street, heading north, when he was struck down.
The elderly man was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the motorcar was taken into police custody; a breathalyzer test was administered but there was no alcohol detected.
