Female driver dies after collision with minibus

A 25-year-old woman lost her life on Saturday morning (February 03) following an accident on the Schoonard Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD).

The woman has been identified was Allana Ramsarran of Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

News Room understands that the minibus driven by a 42-year-old man and the motorcar driven by the young lady were driving on opposite sides of the road when the two collided.

“Minibus BTT 3118 was proceeding east along Schoonard Public Road with a load of passengers while motorcar PWW 972 was proceeding west in the opposite direction. As they were about to pass each other, the driver of the bus alleged the car swerve suddenly into his path, as a result, there was a head-on collision,” police sources explained.

The bus driver, named Ramkumar Persaud, and several passengers received injuries.

They were all taken to the East Demerara Regional Hospital where Ramsarran was pronounced dead on arrival.

The names of those injured and admitted are as follows: Roneta Paul, 36; Fizan Mohammed, 50 and his son Safraz Mohammed, 24; Anita Mohan, 32, all of Recht-Door-Zee, WBD; Alvin Edmond, 59 and his wife Rhonda Edmond of Schoonard, WBD; Leon LaRose, 30, and Alisha Allicock, 28, both of Onderneeming, WBD. The first two named victims were transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Up to press time, the driver of the bus and other passengers were still receiving treatment.
