Minibus passenger nabbed with illegal firearm

A 23-year-old man has been arrested for the possession of an illegal firearm.

According to a police statement, ranks of a police mobile patrol responded to a report that a male was seen with a gun in a minibus that was bound for Georgetown.

Police said the vehicle was intercepted in the vicinity of Laparkan Shipping, Lombard Street and a male instantly exited the vehicle and attempted to flee the police officers.

He was pursued and apprehended; a search revealed an unlicensed Taurus Pistol with nine live rounds, police said.

The suspect, who resides at Nutmeg Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown is being processed for court.
