Chang Yuen, Ramdhani win big at GUMDAC badminton
The season-opening GUMDAC Open Doubles badminton tournament concluded last weekend with Ronald Chang Yuen and Priyanna Ramdhani winning big, lifting two titles.
Competing at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, Chang Yuen and Ramdhani partnered to win the Mixed Doubles, while Chang Yuen teamed up with Jonathon Mangra to cop the Men’s Doubles and Ramdhani joined forces with Shivannie Persaud to lift the Ladies Doubles.
In the Men’s Doubles final, youngsters Mangra and Chang Yuen defeated seasoned senior players Marlon Chung and Darrell Carpenay in a thrilling three games playoff.
Mangra and Chang Yuen took the first game 21-14 with Chung and Carpenay taking the second 21-12. With all to play for in the third, Mangra and Chang Yuen closed the match out 21-19.
Third place went to William Holder and Haymant Ramdhani, who gained a walkover from Javid Rahaman and Ernesto Choo-A-Fat.
In the Mixed Doubles final, Ramdhani and Chang Yuen defeated Chung and Shivannie Persaud in straight sets 21-19, 21-16. Third place went to Darrell Carpenay and Ayanna Wickham-Watson, who defeated youngsters Akili Haynes and Jayde DaSilva 22-20, 21-9.
The presentation of prizes was made by past champions William Holder, Leslie Liu and Chet Bowling.
