46 Y-O Porter killed in highway accident

A 46-year-old porter was killed on Tuesday night after he was struck by a car on the Kuru Kururu Public Road, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.

According to the police, Dexter Conway of Old Road, Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was a porter on motor lorry GVV 427 driven by Elroy Savory, 30 years, of 128 Kuru Kururu Village, when the lorry developed mechanical problems.

It was noted that the driver and porter exited and were positioned along the right side of the vehicle trying to fix the problem when they were struck down by the motorcar which was proceeding in the same direction.

The 28-year-old driver of motor car PRR 378 alleged that he was blinded by the lights on a vehicle proceeding in the opposite direction.

The injured were taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where Conway was pronounced dead on arrival while the driver of the lorry was treated and sent away.

The driver of the car is in custody assisting with the investigation.
