Cop charged for slapping woman in minibus

Police Constable Robert Hendricks appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, where he was found guilty of unlawfully assaulting Shonnette Smith.

He was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine or serve three weeks’ imprisonment.

It is alleged that on January 26th at High Street, Georgetown, Constable #22919 Hendricks, who is attached to the impact base at Brickdam Police Station, slapped the woman three times while they were in a minibus.

The Court heard that Hendricks was sitting in the conductor’s seat and the victim was seated next to him. It is alleged that Hendricks put his hands around the woman and she pushed it away.

However, Hendricks put back his hands and the woman brushed it away a second time. The officer became annoyed and pushed his hands around the victim’s waist and said: “move my hand again and I guh put two box on you.”

The victim removed his hands and Hendricks slapped her three times.
