The first shipment of development casings to be prepared for offshore use on the Liza 1 project arrived at the Muneshwer onshore facility at Houston, on the East Bank of Demerara on Wednesday evening.

Casings are tubings that are set inside the drilled well to protect and support the well-stream since the raw sides of the well cannot support themselves while drilling.

During a visit to the onshore facility on Thursday, media operatives were given an update on the construction and operations of the facility which is slated to be completed in March.

    Project Manager, Glen Lockwood

Project Manager, Glen Lockwood said the facility will be completed by the deadline. He also disclosed that another shipment is expected by next week. “We’re finishing up the warehouse …and other things but we’re ready,” he said.

Chairman of TotalTec Oilfield Services, Lars Mangal told the media that they currently employ 60 persons, 94% of which are Guyanese. He said that amount is expected to grow to between 200 to 300 persons.

The onshore facility; Guyana Shore Base Inc. (GYBSI) which services ExxonMobil’s offshore operations are owned by a consortium of companies which includes Muneshwers Ltd., Pacific Rim Constructors, TotalTec Oilfield Services and LED Offshore.

The initial facility was acquired at a cost US$20 million but an additional US$10 million is said to be invested in ongoing works.
