The Shivnarine Chanderpaul Celebrity Invitational Open golf tournament is among four major events planned by the Lusignan Golf Club for the 2018 season. This is according to president, Aleem Hussain.

News Room understands that several past and current cricketers will suit up for the one day tournament, in honour of the Guyana and West Indies batting legend. Top male and female players on the local circuit will also be vying for top honours on a date to be announced by the Club.

Hussain divulged that the Lusignan Open will also be hosted this year, as well as the President’s Cup in May and the prestigious Guyana Open in the first week of November. Several other weekend competitions are carded for the season, among them the highly-anticipated Torginol Open in early June.

Tournaments apart, Hussain pointed out the Club will be transformed this year to facilitate much more activities outside of golf.

“The Golf Club has undergone tremendous changes. We have added parking for 300 vehicles. We intend to convert it to a full-fledge events centre. It will have weddings, parties, training sessions for various companies, family fun days for companies. We’re in the process of adding a swimming pool, two tennis courts, and a fine dining restaurant,” Hussain explained.

The Club’s programme of activities will continue this weekend with the Sanjay’s Jewellery pre-Valentine’s Open on Saturday from 12:30h and a Wine Tasting and Tea Party on Sunday from 14:30h.
