Berbice man crushed to death

Forty-three-year-old Rohan Pooran known as ‘Pumpy’ was pronounced dead on arrival at the New Amsterdam Hospital on Saturday night (February 10, 2018) after he was crushed by a 4X4 vehicle.

News Room understands that Pooran of Lot 58 Stanleytown, Berbice was sitting on the shoulders of the Stanleytown main road when the vehicle crashed into him at around 20:30hrs.

Eyewitnesses recalled seeing Pooran consuming alcohol earlier in the evening, after which he visited a well-known hangout spot in Stanleytown.

Persons in the area told News Room that it is customary for Pooran to sit on the road after imbibing.

Police have since taken the driver into custody and an investigation is ongoing.
