National javelin record-holder, Leslain Baird, continues to improve on his record with yet another brilliant throw on Sunday at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) athlete has been in ominous form and threw 74.71 metres to improve his own record. He previously threw 73.46 metres.

“It feels good to know that I can improve the record once again and make it even harder for me to reach. I know I would have broken the record yesterday because I have been putting in the work over the last five months with the help of coach Robert Chisholm, Coach Raul Griffith and Coach Julian Edmonds,” Baird told News Room Sport.

In addition, Baird did note that the aim was to go even further. “Although I threw 74.71m, it wasn’t the distance we were looking for, our aim was to hit the 76m mark; but coach said that the rain played a part in me not getting the distance,” Baird mentioned.

With the performance, Baird has now broken the record six times, spanning from 2013 to the present and will head to Trinidad and Tobago to be a part of their national trials to further improve, with the aim of hitting the 76m mark.
