Berbice Goldsmith shot during attempted robbery

Police have arrested a 24-year-old No. 2 Village, East Canje, Berbice man in connection with the shooting and attempted robbery of a Goldsmith on Sunday, February 11, 2018.

According to a police report, the Goldsmith of Bath, West Coast Berbice was shot to his left leg by a lone gunman who attempted to rob him of a bag containing valuables, at Welfare Street, East Canfield, East Canje Berbice, about 17:30hrs on Sunday. He remains in a stable condition at a medical institution.

Police said that the suspect abandoned his bicycle and fled on foot after the victim discharged a round in his direction from his licensed handgun.

The suspect in custody was recently arrested and questioned in relation to several serious crimes but was released due to insufficient evidence, police noted. Investigations are ongoing.
