Female vendor robbed by bicycle bandits

A 24-year-old vendor was robbed of her cash and valuables on James Street, Albouystown, Georgetown at around 13:00hrs on Monday, February 12, 2018.

News Room was informed that Chandroutie Mahatoo, who vends at the La Penitence Market, was being towed by her 22-year-old brother on a bicycle along James Street when they were confronted by two suspects also on pedal cycles.

It was noted that suspects were armed with a handgun and ice pick. The suspects allegedly blocked the path of the victims; one of them pulled out a firearm from his right side pants waist and pointed it at the victims while his accomplice drew the ice pick.

News Room understands that Mahatoo became afraid and handed over her bag containing GY$50,000, US$250, a cell phone valued $30,000 and a gold chain valued $40,000.

Investigations are ongoing.
