Guyana Jaguars returned to winning ways, comfortably defeating USA on Monday in the Super50 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua. The reigning Four-day champions were indebted to all-rounder Christopher Barnwell and opener Chandrapaul Hemraj, who both made telling contributions.

Jaguars, on the back of Hemraj’s 64 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s 39, easily overhauled USA’s total of 144, winning by seven wickets in the 31st over. It was Hemraj’s first List A fifty.

The left-hander struck four sixes and six fours in his 59-ball knock and added 89 in quick time with Chanderpaul after Shimron Hetmyer fell for five in the second over. Chanderpaul faced 62 balls and counted four fours and a six.

Barnwell and skipper Leon Johnson then sealed off the win at 150-3 in 30.1 overs, both ending on 19 not out, in an unbroken partnership of 36. Barnwell’s innings spanned just 16 balls and included two sixes, while Johnson was more circumspect, hitting two fours from the 33 balls faced.

USA struggled once they were inserted to take first strike. Their total represented a recovery from 69-6 in the 27th over. Barnwell picked up 4-35 from nine overs and Keemo Paul bagged 2-25.

Opener Jaskaran Malhotra topscored with 80 for the US side.
