Minibus driver hospitalised with gunshot, chop wounds

A minibus driver was shot and chopped about his body at Victoria Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Friday night.

According to the police, 37-year-old Alfred Braithwaite of South Vryheid’s Lust, ECD was standing in front of the Superbet shop when he was approached by three men, two armed with handguns and the other with a cutlass.

The men allegedly demanded money and shot the victim to his right leg after he refused.

Braithwaite, police said also alleged that after being shot he rushed into his minibus #BVV 7712 which was nearby and secured himself but was pursued by the suspects who damaged the windscreens and windows and also inflicted a wound to the right side of his face and relieved him of $14,000.

Braithwaite was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

The suspects, later identified as ‘Juvenile’, ‘Bang’ and ‘Kevin’ are being sought.
